After Vaginal Rejuvenation

After any surgery, it is important to follow your surgeon's and the medical staff's instructions to help you have a smooth and easy recovery.

Right After Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery

When you wake after vaginal rejuvenation surgery, you might feel a little uncoordinated from the anesthesia. This is normal. If the medical staff may give you instructions such as: to move around or to drink water. Follow these instructions even if you do not feel up to it. Let the staff know how you feel and what you are experiencing.

An overnight stay is not required after vaginal rejuvenation surgery, and the medical staff will likely release you one to two hours after surgery, depending on the type of anesthesia you had and how your body reacts to the surgery. You are required to have someone drive you to and home from the surgery center.

You will be instructed on medications, bathing, wound care and when to see your surgeon for a follow up visit.

At Home, After Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery

You'll likely have a bandage or dressing over the surgical site, which you will wear for a few days after vaginal rejuvenation surgery. Your surgeon will instruct you as to when you can remove any post-surgical garments or bandages.

Within a week, you will visit your surgeon to follow up and see how well you are healing after the surgery. You will be advised to hold off on particular activities. You will resume normal routines and exercise when your surgeon permits over the next few weeks. Your doctor might recommend light exercise to improve blood flow and help you recover faster, depending on your surgery and situation.

You should avoid hot baths and extreme heat for about a week, and refrain from sex and using tampons for six weeks. You should be able to return to work within a few days. After several weeks, you can resume normal leisure and recreational activities.

Sex After Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery

Your surgeon will probably advise you to hold off vaginal intercourse for about six weeks, maybe longer. This doesn't mean you can't be intimate with your partner; however, touching or rubbing the surgical site can cause pain and increase risk of infection and other complications. After the six weeks, your surgeon might recommend that you use a special lubricant during vaginal intercourse for comfort and ease.
