What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Definition of Vaginal Rejuvenation
Vaginal rejuvenation is a procedure that tightens and tones the vaginal walls by utilizing sutures to restore the muscular strength, firmness, and control often lost after women give birth. The aging process alone can sometimes create issues in regard to a woman’s muscular tone, which can cause sex to become less pleasurable for both partners. Vaginal rejuvenation seeks to restore what has been lost in terms of form and function to help women restore self-confidence, experience more pleasurable sexual encounters, and correct other functional issues related to the vagina.
Definition of Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty, in contrast to vaginal rejuvenation, works primarily with the external structures that surround the vagina. Specifically, this procedure can address issues related to the labia minora (minor lips on the inside of the vagina) or the labia majora (the larger, outer lips of the vagina). Some women, for example, experience functional problems related to having too much tissue contributing to the labia minora or labia majora, causing aesthetic or functional issues that are easily corrected with a minor surgery. Other women in contrast, seek out a labiaplasty to correct aesthetic problems or simply make the vagina more pleasing to the eye.
There are three different types of labiaplasty that can be performed on women including: reduction labiaplasty, augmentation labiaplasty, and liposuction labiaplasty. In a reduction labiaplasty, the surgeon trims away excess tissue from the labia minora. In an augmentation labiaplasty, the doctor harvests fat cells from another donor site on the body using liposuction and then transplants it into the labia to create a more youthful appearance to the labia majora. In liposuction labiaplasty, liposuction is used to remove excess fat tissues from the labia majora, also with the goal of restoring a more youthful appearance to the genitals.
Who is a good candidate for vaginal rejuvenation?
The best candidates for vaginal rejuvenation are women who are experiencing a lack of sensation during sexual intercourse. These women and their partners may simply be noting a lack of friction during sex and be motivated to make a change due to functional issues related to lack of muscle tone in the vaginal walls. A lack of muscle tone is often the motivating factor that causes women to seek out this procedure, although some women also hope to improve problems with incontinence that are due to muscle or pelvic weakness as well.
Women should be in a good general health before pursuing vaginal rejuvenation or labiaplasty. Ideally, women should be non-smokers. Those who are diabetic or suffer from heart or lung disorders or bleeding problems may not be good candidates for the procedure. Talk with your doctor if you suffer from any of these health issues to find out if the procedure is right for you. There are number of factors for your doctor to consider before determining whether or not vaginal rejuvenation or labiaplasty is right for you.
